Water Cooler Function
A majority of the unconverted energy in an internal combustion engine is dissipated as heat, which heats the engine during operation. Due to high temperatures parts of the engine can be damaged, which is why the thermal energy has to be dissipated. For this reason, internal combustion engines are equipped with a cooling system. While many smaller or open built motors are directly cooled by air, most car engines have a water cooling system. This consists of a cooling circuit, in which cooling water is brought by a pump to the heated engine parts. The heated cooling water then has to be cooled again, which is where the water coolers come in. Here the water is passed through a system of pipes, cooling ribs and fins with a large surface over which the heat is released to the outside air. The radiator is usually located in front of the vehicle to use the wind from driving to cool down. In addition, it has one or more fans, which passes sufficient cooling air to the radiator even when the vehicle is stationary. Known water cooler manufacturers include Valeo, Behr Hella and Denso.
If the radiator is leaking
The cooler is not subject to immediate wear , it should remain functional for its intended use through regular maintenance for the duration of the vehicle's life. Some care should be taken that the antifreeze added to the cooling water complies with the specifications given by the manufacturer in order to avoid possible damage due to material incompatibilities. Mechanical damage to the radiator often results in leakage through which the cooling circuit loses cooling water, and a lower fluid level may be indicated. If the quantity of cooling water is too low it can cause damage to the engine.
Repairing or replacing the water cooler
A leaky radiator can often be repaired with a special sealant. This is usually given directly into the cooling circuit through the expansion tank or the radiator cap. If the car cooler can't be fixed in this way, a repair is usually unavoidable. If you want to change the water cooler yourself you must dismantle most various peripheral components such as fans, radiator hoses and the radiator grille first. The cooler itself is usually attached by screw on a holder, which must be loosened. In our online shop you can order all necessary parts cheaply. You'll also find many other spare parts in OEM quality for many car makes and models.
