Park assist- its function and the different systems
Earlier vehicles already sometimes had passive parking aids, such as curb sensors or dipsticks, which helped the driver to detect obstacles. In newer car models, active electronic systems which make parking easier are increasingly being used. The retrofitting of such systems is possible in many cases. Two measurement methods of detecting obstacles when parking are currently in use. In ultrasound-based parking aids, there are sensors built into in the bumpers which send out an inaudible acoustic signal, which is then reflected from obstacles and received by the sensors. Based on the signal propagation delay the electronics calculate the distance to the respective object and warn the driver. In radar-based systems, an electromagnetic radar signal is emitted in place of ultrasound, and then evaluated, which is the same basic principle. Depending on the manufacturer, there are different names for the various reverse warning system such as Park Distance Control (PDC), Parktronic, Distronic or Park Pilot. In addition, reversing cameras can also be used when parking, which capture your surroundings and show them on a display. Self-steering park assist is also very popular at the moment.. Known manufacturers of such systems include BOSCH, WAECO, VEMO, METZGER or VALEO.
If your Parktronic is defective
In electronic elements, such as the parking aid, there can be many varied reasons for malfunction. Among the more common defects are a defective ultrasonic sensor, which manifests itself during PDC with a permanent tone.Fully functional sensors produce a clicking noise, which causes defective sensors with no noise to fail to locate. Often a fault in the system is also displayed on the display of the onboard computer, provided that the parking assistance is integrated into the vehicle electronics.
Retrofit, repair or replace the park assist without drilling
To gain access to the sensors the appropriate bumper, or the bumper of the vehicle must usually be removed. Previously, it was recommended to pull out the connection cable on the control unit. This is often in the trunk of the car. Appropriate guidance should be followed to change or retrofit the complete system to the respective vehicle model as well as for the use of the parking assistance system. It has long been the case that the park assist is fitted to the bumper without drilling.Everything you need for you to retrofit or repair can be ordered inexpensively and conveniently in our online shop. We also carry many other parts in brand quality for many car makes and models.
