Clutch Pressure Plate - Function and Task
The vehicle has a clutch to separate the power transmission between the engine and gearbox when starting and when changing gears. In conventional cars the power transmission takes place in the closed state of the rotating flywheel on the motor connected to it in the traction clutch disc. This in turn is connected to the transmission shaft. The clutch disc is pressed by a plate spring against the flywheel. Between the spring and the clutch disk is the clutch pressure plate, which transmits the spring force to the clutch plate uniformly over the entire bonding surface. Pressure plate and diaphragm spring are rotatably connected to the flywheel. When you press the clutch release lever it acts on the thrust bearing, whereby the spring is moved toward the flywheel. This in turn lifts via a lever mechanism to the pressure plate, which detaches from the clutch disc and relieves the spring pressure. Thus, the frictional connection is interrupted to the flywheel and no longer transmits rotary motion to the gear shaft. Among the well-known manufacturers of clutch plates include LUK, VALEO, SACHS, and BLUE PRINT.
If the clutch pressure plate is defective
The clutch is subject to particularly to high mechanical loads when engaging and disengaging, and therefore wear of the coupling components will not fail over time. If the clutch grinds too long it leads to intense heat and may have a thermal overload and result in damage to the pressure plate. Such a damaged clutch pressure plate can possibly no longer let spring pressure be optimally transmitted to the clutch disk, which leads a slip of the clutch. If the clutch does not separate properly, you should also check the clutch pressure plate, and see if it has any protrusion of the housing.Due to the high load, the pressure plate can break in the worst case.
Replacing the clutch pressure plate
If the clutch pressure plate is broken or otherwise damaged, replacement is inevitable.Replacing the clutch and clutch components is usually associated with a considerable amount of work, which also includes building out the transmission. Nevertheless, technically savvy individuals can replace the clutch pressure plate themselves, but first you should obtain an accurate guide for the respective vehicle model. Please note that the installation of used clutch pressure plates has great risk to your safety. In our online shop you can very inexpensively and conveniently buy a new clutch pressure plate. You will also find a wide range of many other brand spare parts for various vehicle makes and models.
