The development of the automobile and engine manufacturer Skoda
The origin of today's Skoda Auto Corporation, headquartered in the Czech Mladá Boleslav, goes back to the company Laurin & Klement, which in 1895 began to manufacture bicycles and motorcycles. In 1905, the first car of the manufacturer was introduced: the Voiturette model. In 1925, Laurin & Klement, which did not have its own car production, was acquired by the mechanical engineering company Skoda. From then on, the cars were first sold under the brand name Laurin & Klement, and sometime later were then sold under the name Skoda. After World War II, the entire company was nationalized in what was then Czechoslovakia and the production continued as an independent state-owned company continued under the name Skoda. Well-known models of the 1950s were the Skoda 440 and the Skoda 450. Later the models Skoda 1000 MB, Skoda 100 and Skoda 742 followed. The high point of the 80s was the model Skoda Favorit. With the end of the Socialist planned economy, Skoda was sold by the Czechoslovak Government to Volkswagen AG and became another car brand of the Wolfsburg group in 1990 along with VW, Audi and SEAT. The first model of this period was the Skoda Felicia. It was followed by the compact class model Octavia and the subcompact model Fabia, which have been in their third generation since 2012 and 2014 respectively.
