Something about Dodge Company History
The subsidiary and car brand from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has its origin in the Dodge Brothers Company from John Francis and Horace Elgin Dodge, who settled with their company in the US city of Detroit in 1901. An early collaboration with the Ford Motor Company began, for which the brothers produced Dodge Auto parts. Some own vehicle models were produced in 1914. Dodge mainly produced trucks in World War I and the company was then sold to the Dillon and Read Company, until it was taken over by Chrysler in 1928. Mostly medium-priced cars were produced afterwards, such as the Dodge DP Six in 1936, but also more luxurious models such as the Dodge D11 Luxury Liner in the later 1930s. From the mid-1950s Dodge increasingly began to pay attention to an improved, independent design. Corresponding Dodge models such as the Dodge Dart and the Dodge Charger then followed in the 60s. In the wake of the oil crisis, the demand for large-sized cars declined in the early 1970s. Typical models of this time were the Dodge Colt, based on the Mitsubishi Colt, as well as the Dodge Diplomat which was built from 1977 to 1989. A successful model was the pickup Dodge Ram built in 1981, which has been available in its fourth generation under its own brand name since 2010. The Dodge Charger LX was presented in 2005; the new edition of the Dodge Challenger has been available on the market since 2008. In 2009, Dodge became part of the newly formed Fiat Chrysler Company.
